A 4.3-inch reader with no touchscreen, no backlight, and no bookstore is doing a small useful thing: it makes the reading list leave the machine that keeps trying to turn it into a feed. One developer built a tiny newspaper around that refusal.

Jonas Hönecker bought an Xteink X4, a 4.3-inch e-reader with no touchscreen or backlight, installed the community Crosspoint firmware, and built feedpaper around it. The macOS tool pulls unread Feedbin posts, filters out video, JavaScript-heavy pages, and link-only newsletters, then packages what remains as one EPUB newspaper for the device. The repository documents the point plainly: unread blog posts become a single e-reader file rather than another reason to open a browser tab.

Most “read later” systems keep the reader inside the same attention machinery that made postponement necessary: alerts, tabs, tracking, the little casino in the pocket. This is a more physical boundary. The selection still happens in software, but the reading occurs on a device that cannot interrupt, recommend, or sell the next thing. A personal system earns its keep when it changes the room around an action, not when it adds another clever pane to the old room.
